Plain Green Mittens

I’ve finished the plain green mittens. These will be for my husband – they match his hat. I used size 3 needles, a little bit less then a full skein of Galway Highland Heather worsted weight wool (210 yards per skein), and the basic mitten pattern from Ann Budd’s book “The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns”. My gauge was 6 stitches per inch.

This mitten uses a spiral decrease at the top and thumbs – I think I like a band decrease better, and will probably use it on the next pair of mittens.

  1. I’ve also made a few mittens from Ann Budd’s book – I just love how the all the numbers for any size are already there 🙂 After making one pair with the spiral decreases, I modified future pairs with paired decreases at each side of the thumb or top (decreasing 4 stitches every other round or so which is the same as the spiral decreases) sort of like a sock toe for ankle-down socks.
