Bargain bin epistemology.

Today I was thinking about skills and knowledge.

How. Why. History.

Skill. Analysis. Background.

If you don’t know how to do something, you’re just out of luck.

If you know how to do something, but not why you’re doing it, you can manage, but you are pretty limited.

If you know how and why you are doing something, but not the history of what you are doing you can certainly manag, and probably pretty darn well most of the time. But knowing the history would make you better.

If you have a skill, you can do something.

If you have a skill and know how to analyze it, you can do something well, and teach it to others.

If you have a skill, know how to analyze it, and know it’s background, you can do it, teach it, and understand it in the grander picture.

Three ways to know. Three layers of understanding

Interesting stuff.
