I’ve joined the Knit the Classics group. I’ve been following their blog for a while now, and always enjoyed reading about what people were inspired to knit by the various books.
I am looking forward to having a literary excuse to buy yarn, and a social excuse to buy books. Next up: Lolita, by Nabokov.
Another thing I am hoping is that participating in this will expand my horizons as a reader, and thus help me expand my horizons as a writer. There is such a grand wealth of literature in the world that it can be very challenging to get out side of my comfort zone with books – it gets difficult to find something both different and well enough written that I don’t want to throw it across the room and scream.
Welcome to blogging. I too have been inspired by Knit the Classics to read books I’ve never read and wouldn’t automatically pick up, and to expand on that. I’m just so sorry that Lolita is the first book up the month you’ve joined. After some reflection, I think I’m going to sit this one out. There isn’t anything enlightening that I forsee from reading this that will balance out the trauma and devastation to the soul that this read is likely to inflict.
I think I will pick up one of the alternate reads that didn’t get selected – maybe Willa Cather’s My Antonia.
